Collaboration between municipalities and citizen initiatives in the heat transition is relatively new and requires different forms of partnership than traditional public-private cooperation. Citizen initiatives operate based on different values and methods, and the municipality takes on a new, supportive role.
In Zwolle, I had the opportunity to guide Platform Duurzaam Zwolle and the municipality during several sessions as they explored their joint “growth space”: the space in which both parties can learn and grow in their collaboration. These sessions deepened topics such as getting to know each other, securing partnership, collaboration around activities and themes such as representativeness, continuity, funding and professionalism, institutionalization, and role clarity. The aim was to create a sustainable, learning partnership that truly advances the heat transition in Zwolle.
