Projects and inspiration

I serve as an external reviewer for the IPBES reports *The Second Global Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services* and *Spatial Planning and Ecological Connectivity*. 
IPBES (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) is the ‘IPCC for biodiversity’: an independent scientific platform that provides policymakers with objective insights into the state of nature and the contribution of ecosystems to human well-being. 

We are proud to be associated with the national research consortium EXTRA: From EXperiment to sustainable change – TRAnsformative methodologies for Innovation and learning. This project focuses on strengthening physical and experimental learning and innovation environments—also known as living labs.

The Circular Trust Building Interreg project focuses on strengthening trust and collaboration between public and private parties to accelerate circular ambitions in the region. The project aims to develop joint strategies and concrete actions that support the transition to a circular economy in the Northern Netherlands.

Renovation flows is a large-scale program that accelerates the sustainability upgrading of the existing housing stock in the Netherlands by developing scalable and predictable renovation streams. Working together with municipalities, housing associations, market players, and knowledge institutions, the program ramps up the pace and volume of home renovations to make the climate goals for 2030 and 2050 achievable.

Over de Hobbel has co-facilitated a session over several days with a group from the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance (CNCA). Participants included officials from 15 cities, decarbonization experts, and private sector frontrunners, all united in the belief that cities can and should take a leading role in the transformation towards a climate-positive built environment. 

For the Laudes Foundation, together with Marten Boekelo, I facilitate a Community of Practice of organizations advocating for a more ambitious and fair decarbonization of the built environment. The network brings together a wide range of expertise: from community coalition building and engaging industrial frontrunners, to emission accounting systems and policy development in European policy arenas.

For the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), I monitor and evaluate two large-scale living lab research projects within the SWEET program: SWICE and LANTERN. Both projects are part of Switzerland’s broad commitment to accelerating the energy transition and achieving the climate goals of the national Energy Strategy 2050.

From Linear Design Chains to Circular Design Teams" was a practice-oriented RAAK research project at Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, carried out within the "Networks in a Circular Economy" research line.

Collaboration between municipalities and citizen initiatives in the heat transition is relatively new and requires different forms of partnership than traditional public-private cooperation.
